A Beginners Blogging Experience

I got started blogging in 2011 with a comprehensive course that provides step-by-step instructions on how to be successful with blogging to make a living.

Despite having a background in selling SEO & PPC services since 2000, I have no technical experience and have never built a website.  I have always been on the sales side of things.  Over the years I picked up some technical lingo and basic SEO principles from listening to my tech’s talk on conference calls and in meetings with clients.

After several years of telling my clients how easy it is to get a website up with todays technology, even with zero technical know-how, I decided to get my hands dirty so I could practice what I preach.

Just like learning anything new, there’s a learning curve.  The nice thing is that the learning curve is dramatically decreased by following the steps outline in the Blog Blueprint.

I have 2 blogs live – healthysnackrecipes.org & doesslimfastwork.net – and they are both now ranking on the first page of Google for their targeted keyword phrases, bringing in hundreds of unique visitors per month.  I have yet to monetize the sites, which will be one of my next steps to implement.  I’m still trying to figure out exactly how I will go about it.

It’s been a 6 month process so far, which is probably longer than most take to do what I’ve accomplished with only 2 blogs live.  But it’s because I have a SEO business to run and clients to manage plus a family with 2 little boys, and my 3 year old with health issues that require a lot of attention.

I have had my share of frustrations and complications, which is part of the territory and to be expected.  It takes perseverance and working through whatever problems that may arise to keep on going and get closer to realizing my goals.

I love the SEO biz and I’m very grateful for this industry that has allowed me to work from home for over a decade now.  Doing marketing for other businesses has its own set of difficulties and I am definitely ready to branch into doing marketing for myself now.

The ultimate goal is to be able to walk away from servicing SEO clients and do blogging and internet marketing for my own businesses.  It’s been a fun and interesting journey so far and I am grateful to have great mentors and teachers such as Jason Katzenback, Jason Potash, and the British guy with the really cool accent.  :)

I am still learning and have a lot more to learn, but confident that I will eventually get it and reach my goal of blogging full-time and no longer selling internet marketing services for other businesses.  Let the journey continue!

It is especially rewarding to see you continuing to practice what you preach in a simple and unequivocal way. Thanks for your willingness to spend your time in the lab testing what really works and then freely sharing the results with the rest of us.
